Paul Schonenburg, CEO and Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg, joined Sam on the Breakfast Show this week to discuss the organisation’s new initiative The AmCham Member Benefits Club.
It may sound as though the AmCham is an organisation that works solely as a conduit for American businesses in Luxembourg but Paul quickly dispelled that assumption, “We decided a long time ago that we would be Luxembourg centric and focus on what’s best for the business community and for the economy in Luxembourg. We are America friendly but we don’t spend a lot of our time going on trade missions or things like that and I have to say that I am extremely proud of our demographics. We’re 30% American companies, 20% purely Luxembourgish companies like the Post Office and 50% companies from the rest of the planet” he explained, “we’re an English speaking, international melting pot who will welcome anyone who’s a good person and shares our values.”
With many businesses struggling due to the pandemic and consumer habits changing, who among us hasn’t bought a bit more online in the past year than before, AmCham have devised the AmCham Member Benefits Club. The purpose of this discount program is to create win-win deals for their members and partners, in an effort to kickstart the economy in Luxembourg after a long period of lock-downs and online shopping.
Member companies are encouraged to provide 10% discounts to other members and their card carrying employees. With over 350 members companies representing approximately 6000 employees AmCham hope that the scheme can give their members a shot of business to help them back on their feet and that the discount provides an incentive for shoppers to get back out and shopping in person.
