Choir conductor James Libbey joined Sam in studio this week to present his latest project, the INECC Youth Singers, a dynamic new singing group in Luxembourg dedicated to the development of young singers.
Known for his work with Voices International, James is extremely excited about this new venture which he hopes will give young people who have an interest in singing a place to practice, improve and express their talent.
“I think a lot of kids think that they are alone in their love or joy for singing”, said James, “the idea of this choir is to be open inclusive fun and modern.”
The choir is open to anyone from around the age of 15 and to singers of all levels and experience, “I really believe everybody can sing, it’s healthy and it’s what everybody needs, I mean the psychological impact of this pandemic, we’re still finding that out and it’s proven that singing in a choir is healthy, especially for kids.”
The choir will have its first open rehearsal today at 16h30 and it takes place at a very special location. Den Atelier.
“There hasn’t been any music there since everything shut down” James explained, “it’s a big space and all the regulations are in place with distancing and masks and everything.”
“It’s music that I think the kids can connect with and I think when we’re talking about this again in ten years it’s going to be THE choir in the community and it’s really about brining people together and having fun and exploring music.”
