There is work afoot at the Natur- & Geopark Mëllerdall. The park authorities this week announced the launch of a new project aimed at reversing the loss of biodiversity in Luxembourg’s Mullerthal region.
The Natura 2000 verbindet Project (Natura 2000 connected), aims to preserve native species and their habitats for future generations.
Planned measures include planting a total of 4,000 new fruit trees and professionally pruning around 4,000 existing fruit trees. In addition, nesting boxes for various animal species, new hedges and flower beds will be created.
The important role of landscape and its inhabitants will be strengthened through various awareness campaigns. There are also training courses, such as fruit tree pruning and certified arborist training courses, on offer.
The project is expected to run over five-years and is funded by Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Developmen, and will include all the municipalities of the Natur- & Geopark Mëllerdall as well as Reisdorf, the Vallée de l'Ernz.
