After a year of on-off, on-off in theatres, it is a delight to have a new brochure in hand with the plethora of amazing productions on offer in theatres in Luxembourg city. The choice is endless, eclectic and exciting.
Tom Leick-Burns, the Artistic Director of the theatres of the City of Luxembourg is the man, with his team, behind the bookings and he stopped by the ARA studio to discuss what could be of specific interest to our audience.
In the genre of contemporary dance the range is phenomenal, kicking off on the 16th of September already with the Sadler Wells production Message In A Bottle, choreographed by Kate Prince, based on the songs of Sting With ZooNation. Pina Bausch appears on the schedule in two forms, a Bausch piece The Right of Spring will be performed, then the Pina Bausch Company Wuppertal also perform an iconic piece. South Korean dancer, and choreographer Eun-Me Ahn returns to Luxembourg with Dragons, typical of her work, this is again an intimate piece of work. Grand Théâtre regulars will remember Eun-Me Ahn's striking Dancing Grandmothers of 2018. In the new Dragons, she creates a portrait of contemporary Asia, bringing together five dancers born in different Asian countries in 2000, year of the dragon, with her Seoul-based company. What, she asks, is the future for these young dragons? Another friend of Luxembourg returns in the Hofesh Shechter Company. This season renowned choreographer returns with a new double bill, Double Murder, performed by his inimitable dancers and accompanied by his own epic score. This exciting programme aims to expose painful truths and press emotional buttons. Clowns is a satirical look at our growing indifference to violence. As an antidote to the toxic atmosphere of Clowns, Shechter's latest piece, The Fix, brings a tender energy to the stage.
The variety of drama and opera is equally exciting…listen to Lisa’s chat with Tom below to find out more.
