Today on Delano's Top Of The Week, Duncan Roberts and Tom discussed the upcoming football world cup and the controversy surrounding it ahead of the tournament which kicks off next week in Quatar.
With football fans and pundits around the world calling for a boycott to the tournament, the world cup in Quatar will begin on the 20th of November with the shadow of human rights abuses, anti LGBT laws in the host nation and large scale corruption at the highest levels of FIFA hanging over it.
Venues in Luxembourg such as Rotondes have already announced that they will not be screening the games in reaction to the well documented human rights abuses against migrant workers who were exploited whilst building the stadia that will be used in the tournament.
Last week, Luxembourgish Prime Minister Xavier Bettel reacted to a statement from former Qatari player Khalid Salman who described homosexuality as "mental damage", stating that football should be something which brings people together instead of causing division.
Duncan's pick of events happening this week in Luxembourg include:
- 15-27 November – Rainy Days festival at Philharmonie
- 17 November – Kit Sebastian at Rotondes
- 19-20 November – Red Cross Bazaar on Glacis
And his personal pick was a new track by Breanna Barbara 'Diamond Light' from her new album Nothin' But Time
