Every Monday the Breakfast Show Team bring you a selection of their favourite new music to have been released in the previous week and ask the listeners to decide on which track will be our track of the week.
The last week in January was a big week for album announcements. Toro y Moi, Warpaint, The Kooks, Grimes, Stereophonics and Franz Ferdinand all dropped new singles from forthcoming albums that will see a release some time later in 2022. Meanwhile, Algerian Tuareg blues band Imarhan released their third album ‘Aboogi‘. After putting it to our listeners, Franz Ferdinand came out on top with their new single ‘Curious‘ becoming our new Track of The Week.
Tracks in contention:
Grimes - Shinigami Eyes
Stereophonics - Forever
The Kooks - Connection
Toro y Moi - Postman
Warpaint - Champion
This week Warpaint confirmed that their next album will see release in the spring. ‘Radiate Like This‘ will be the first new long player from the LA four-piece since 2016’s ‘Heads Up‘. They have teased the record by dropping brilliant new single ‘Champion‘.
Imarhan - Assossam
Aboogi, is the Tuareg word for the first structures that were built by their forefathers when they began to settle from their nomadic way of life. It is also the name that Algerian band Imarhan gave to their homemade studio that they began to set up in 2019 and where they proceeded to record their third album of the same name. It is a beautiful record and for our track of the week vote this week we picked our favourite song from the album ‘Assossam‘.
Track of the Week: Franz Ferdinand - Curious
March will see the release of Franz Ferdinand’s greatest hits compilation ’Hits To The Head’. Thankfully, the compilation will feature two new tracks, one of which is new single ‘Curious‘ which the band released this week. Its an excellent disco-infused groover with all the hallmarks of their best work and it was by far the listeners’ favourite entry in our vote for track of the week. The band will also be taking the record on the road later in the year. You can catch them playing at Den Atelier on the 14th of April 2022.
