Patricia Abdelnour came onto the show this morning to talk about the launch of El Sistema Luxembourg.
El Sistema is an international music-education program, founded in Venezuela in 1975 by Venezuelan educator, musician, and activist José Antonio Abreu, that grants opportunities for musical education to children from underprivileged backgrounds around the world
The Luxembourg-based non-profit organization is dedicated to promoting social inclusion and equal opportunity access to Luxembourg’s music education institutions as well as offering international performance opportunities for Luxembourgish children.
Next week, El Sistema will be sending three young musiciansFatima Calciolari (flute) from the École de musique in Kehlen, Cassandra Desiles (flute) and Marco Monteiro (violin) from the École de musique in Differdange to Paris to participate in the ODE project, “Démos Europe Orchestra” named after the Philharmonie’s musical and orchestral education outreach programme for an intense week of rehearsals and a final concert on February 26 at the Grande Salle Pierre Boulez.
In the future, Patricia hopes that El Sistema will bridge the gap between Luxembourg's wealth of music education resources and the underprivileged communities in the country that currently don't have access to those resources or else have trouble navigating the system.
