Tom was joined on the Breakfast Show today by Christophe Gallois, Curator and Head of Exhibitions and Joel Valabrega, Curator of Performance and the public programme at MUDAM in Kirchberg. They discussed the upcoming Zoe Leonard exhibition 'Al Rio/To The River' which opens tomorrow night as well as upcoming performances by William Engelen and Yasmina Reza.
Since opening in 2006 MUDAM has worked to collect, conserve and present the most relevant contemporary art and make it accessible to a wide audience in Luxembourg and beyond.
The Museum itself is located in Kirchberg behind the Philharmonie building. Aside from being an exhibition space, MUDAM comprises of a collection, a publishing department and provides an engaging public programme throughout the year.
Opening tomorrow evening, 'Al Rio/To The River' is an Exhibtion by American Artist Zoe Leonard that takes as its focus the Rio Grande (or Rio Bravo as it is called in Mexico) river which runs along the border of the USA and Mexico. Leonard photographed along the 2,000 kilometres of river from the border cities of Ciudad Juárez, Mexico and El Paso, Texas, to the Gulf of Mexico.
The Exhibition runs from the 26th of February until the 6th of June.
On the 17th, 18th, and 19th of March, Mudam hosts the Theatre National de Luxembourg for a performance of 'Art' a play by French playwright and novelist Yasmina Reza. The play depicts a cross-section of the daily lives of three friends embroiled in a heated conversation about a modern work of art – central to the piece is the familiar question, “what is art?”.
Tickets are 20 euros and can be found at www.lux-ticket.lu
on the 27th of March Mudam will host a performance of Verstrijken by William Engelen. Engelen's practice involves transcribing journals of subjects into musical scores for solo instruments. For this performance, the artist has worked with musician André Pons-Valdès from the Luxembourgish instrumental ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin, who kept a diary for seven days which was transformed by Engelen into a forty-four-minute violin solo score.
Aside from this Joel and Christophe also discussed the wide and varied public programme that is available offered at the museum. For more information on how to participate in any of the wealth of discussions, screenings, workshops and classes that are on offer, head to www.mudam.com
