Every Monday the Breakfast Show team bring you a selection of their favourite new music to have been released in the previous week and ask the listeners to decide on which track will be our track of the week and get played every day on the show .
This week brought us new releases by John Legend, Arlo Parks, Cate Le Bon, Mitski, Jennifer Lopez and Röyksopp and Red Hot Chili Peppers. The voting was quite evenly spread across all the new tracks on offer this week but in the end ‘Black Summer‘, Red Hot Chili Peppers first new single since 2016 came out on top.
Tracks in contention:
John Legend ft Nas & Florian Picasso - Tomorrow
Mitski - Stay Soft
Jennifer Lopez & Maluma - Marry Me
Arlo Parks - Softly
After winning the Mercury Prize for her debut album as well as claiming 2nd place with ‘Eugene‘ in Ara City Radio’s top 100 tracks of the year in 2001, Arlo Parks has started 2022 with this great new single that pushes her sound in a slightly more electronic direction.
Röyskopp ft Alison Goldfrapp - ‘Impossible‘
Röyskopp don’t do albums. The duo announced that they won’t be releasing any music in album format since their 2014 LP ‘The Inevitable End‘. Instead, they will be present an ‘expanded creative universe and prodigious conceptual project’ in the form of an immersive audio visual experience that is soundtracked by 10 new tracks. The latest of those to be released is this new single ‘Impossible‘ featuring the vocals of Alison Goldfrapp which came narrowly second in the vote this week
Red Hot Chili Peppers - ‘Black Summer‘
This week Red Hot Chili Peppers returned with their first new music since 2016 and their first new music with John Frusciante since he left the band 16 years ago. Black Summer sounds like the Chili Peppers are back on the top of their game and fans will surely be eager to catch them playing it live this summer. This one is our track of the week and will be played every day this week on The Breakfast show.
