Today on the Breakfast Show, Lisa interviewed Ambre Schulz from Paserell about the work they are doing to support refugees and asylum seekers in Luxembourg.
Passerell is an organisation that offers legal aid to asylum seekers and refugees. The recent invasion of Ukraine has caused a spike in requests coming in to the organisation concerning how people arriving from the Ukraine can seek asylum and how people in Luxembourg can help them.
Lisa and Ambre also discuss the temporary protection directive that has been put into effect for the first time in Europe in response to the influx of refugees from Ukraine. The directive was created to help European countries cope with large influxes of refugees, allowing people to remain in the country for one year while their applications for right to remain are processed.
Amidst criticism in the press of selectionism being shown by the EU in launching this directive now, Passerell emphasize that the directive needs to be applied without discrimination of refugee's nationality and where they are coming from.
Passerell is a small organization of only three employees. They currently are funded by donations and they have a crowdfunding campaign running to finance their ongoing work. Individuals as well as companies can donate to them here:
