Luxembourg Pride will celebrate its 22nd Edition this year in Esch-sur-Alzette between the 1st and 10th of July. Nicolas Van Elsué from Rosa Lëtzebuerg joined Tom on the Breakfast Show this morning to discuss what the festival has in store this year.
The festival is organised by the non-profit organisation Rosa Lëtzebuerg, a voluntary organisation which since its foundation in 1996 has been defending the rights of LGBTIQ people living in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
In 2010 the festival underwent a rebranding, changing the name from Gaymat (a pun on the Luxembourgish for "come with") to Luxembourg Pride in order to embrace name that is more inclusive of all members of the LGBTIQ community.
After holding online and Hybrid editions due to the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, Luxembourg Pride will return this year as an official partner of the Esch2022 European Capital of Culture year with a huge line up of events programmed.
Included in the programme this year is the annual commemoration ceremony which pays respect to all those that have campaigned for LGBTIQ rights throughout history, a queer arts festival that will showcase the work of any LGBTIQ artists living in Luxembourg (to take part, participants can get in touch by submitting an application at queerarts.lu/), A conference including discussions with politicians and activists, the Equality March which will this year start across the border in France and proceed to the centre of Esch and the street festival which will feature an all star line up of local and international performing artists.
The festival is free to attend and people can find out more at luxembourgpride.lu/
