Our guest today was Patrizia Luchetta from The Sound of Data, a project that brings together music and science as part of the Esch 2022 cultural Programming.
The Sound of Data is a joint project between the University of Luxembourg, the Luxembourg institute of Science and Technology, The National Research Fund, the Rockhal and Rocklab and multiple artists that aims to educate people about the process of sonification.
Sonification is the process by which scientific data is represented as sound. It has been used as a tool by scientists with visual impairments to understand visual data and it is used to communicate complex scientific and statistical data to broader audiences. It can also be used to compose Music.
For this project, the team have invited Valerz Vermeulen, a professional sound artist and composer who works in the field of sonification to give masterclasses, workshops and perform his music over the course of an interactive learning day on the 1st of May at the Rockhal.
The Sound Of Data has also launched an open call for musicians that are interested in learning more about sonification to take part in artistic residencies at the Rockhal which will culminate in a night of performances on the 3rd of December 2022. Artists of all levels and musical disciplines are invited to apply.
