Our guests on the Breakfast Show this morning were Amber Schulz and Francesca Tavanti from the LFR. They joined Tom to discuss the main issues concerning the integration of refugees and assylum seekers upon arrival in Luxembourg, which were identified at the press conference held by LFR on the occasion of world refugee day.
LFR is a collective of organisations that are involved in protecting the rights of refugees. Amber and Francesca work for Passarell and Ryse respectively.
At the press conference the four main issues identified by LFR concerning the process of refugee's integration into society in Luxembourg were:
- Access to the labor market,
- Access to studies,
- Family Reunification,
- Access to housing.
Each of these areas currently involves complicated processes and legislation that often leave refugees with the inability to provide the correct documentation to fulfill their applications.
Amber and Francesca confirmed that the government was receptive to the calls made by LFR but that there was still a lot of work to do to resolve the issues that had been highlighted by the group.
