Local Matters: The anniversary of last year's floods

The stream Our burbles peacefully through Vianden. A few tourists are here even on a weekday, eating ice cream in the sun or walking up to the castle. The Our river is around 50 centimetres profound, and seagrass is floating in the stream. Nothing shows that one year ago, residents were evacuated from their homes to escape the floods. Almost nothing. One shop at the riverside is still closed and looks like it needs renovation; construction works block the road on the other side of the river. They are reconstructing the wall that has fallen apart.

Jacqueline lives right across the river and shows me a photo of the collapsed stone wall on her phone. She is having sandwiches and coffee with her daughter in the kitchen when I drop in. In their freshly renovated kitchen. For Local Matters, Jacqueline told us about how she experienced the floods. Listen to her story.
