Local Matters this week is about the big exodus, it’s August, I#ve already said it quite a few times this week. But it’s still August and while we stay here under the bright sun above Luxembourg, many people are travelling – for the first time in two years – without covid check, without facemasks, and hopefully without fear. For today’s interview, I got Christine Corsi on the microphone. She is responsible for marketing and communication at the Travel Group Luxembourg (TGL). (TGL) is responsible for 28 travel agencies across the country, mainly those of Voyages Emile Weber and We love to travel.
Whereas the pandemic hit the travel industries hard, Christine Corsi for this year, despite the high inflation rate and a lack of money, is optimistic. “The wish to travel is bigger than any fear. There are definitely people who don’t travel this year. But most of our costumers travel again.” In comparison to the past two years of pandemic, which allowed journeys only inside the country or in Europe, TGL this year has noticed an increasing demand for journeys overseas. “Lots of people go further away again. They book everything that’s possible again, Safari in Tansania, Mauritius, Maledives.”
Another trend that has established in the past years makes also destinations such as Iceland or Sweden and Norway more popular. “People go a lot more north. People are more and more looking for adventure, for tailor-made trips rather than all-inclusive vacation.” For TGL’s travel agencies, this is a challenge. Their staff has to adapt to these new needs of their customers.
