Luxembourg’s govenrment has been actively promoting start ups and initiatives of the circular economy. The business models waste and use less, less resources, less materials, by keeping materials in use – in their original form for as long as possible, and once this is not possible anymore, as components or raw materials. On this week’s Local Matters, we present some local initiatives that follow this model.
For today’s second episode of this series, I took the microphone and went to Facilitec in Esch. The association Emweltberodung Letzebuerg (EBL) has launched a service called Gutt Geschier that allows anyone to borrow all kinds of tools. People choose the needed tools on the website ebl.lu, reserve them, and collect them at the Facilitec premises in Esch. The service is free of charge. Fränz Hausemer works at EBL and is responsible for the project Gutt Geschier.
For this project, the EBL teamed up with Facilitec. Facilitec has a workshop in Esch where anyone can bring their wood, metal or other materials to work on their diy projects. The employees are there to assist in planning, building and using the tools. For the EBL’s rental service, this is the right location.
On one side of the workshop, Facilitec has their professional stationary tools, big metal saws and other devices, on a different corner of the room, the EBL stores the take away tools. The electric ones are stored in their boxes on the shelf, the smaller ones hang on the wall in rows.
Whereas every three year old understands how to use a hammer, some of the electric devices might need a bit more knowledge. Anyone who has never used a driller or a jigsaw, gets an introduction here. Security is an important aspect. Sebastien is here to show how to use a saw without cutting any fingers. And to make sure you use the right tool for the right purposes.
Everyone who has ever tried to sand a piece of furniture by hand only using the paper, will appreciate an electric sander. At Gutt Geschier, everyone can borrow the tools for free. And if you as well have some spare tools in the cellar that deserve a better life than just lying around most time of the year, Gutt Geschier is open for donations of tools.
