On International Women's Day, Tom was joined by Ambre Shulz from Passerell to talk about the Istanbul Convention and how it has been implemented in Luxembourg.
The Istanbul Convention is an international treaty signed by the council of Europe which acts as a legal framework for the protection of women from violence, abuse and persecution. Passerell is an organisation that offers legal guidance and assistance to Asylum seekers and refugees in Luxembourg.
As Ambre describes, Luxembourg has introduced measures to implement the Istanbul convention however there are still instances where asylum seekers fleeing persecution in their own countries are receiving rejections to their appeals for asylum due to misinterpretation or lack of understanding surrounding the Istanbul Convention.
