What’s right: England launches free breakfast clubs in 750 schools

In a powerful move to support children in disadvantaged areas, the UK government has rolled out 750 free breakfast clubs across primary schools deemed deprived. This programme aims to ensure every child starts their day well-fed and ready to learn, addressing both hunger and educational inequality.

These clubs are backed by major British brands like Morrisons, Sainsbury’s, and Weetabix, which are offering discounted supplies and free delivery to participating schools. Research shows nearly 38% of parents struggle to give their child a healthy breakfast due to time or financial pressures, and the programme helps offset that, saving up to £450 per year for families.

As part of the initiative, 2,000 new schools are scheduled to join from April 2026, widening the reach even further. While funding and expansion details are still being worked out, this step signals a commitment to giving every child a fair morning start. That’s what’s right with the world.
