In a time when LGBTQ+ rights are under increasing pressure, one organization is proving that solidarity and action still matter—big time. Lambda Legal, a nonprofit that’s been fighting for LGBTQ+ and HIV+ civil rights since 1973, just raised an astonishing $285 million in its first-ever major fundraising campaign.
Yes, $285 million.
What’s even more inspiring? This wasn’t big corporations writing checks—it came from individuals and grassroots supporters. Fourteen people and a handful of foundations gave over $1 million each. Some pledged tens of millions. It’s the largest fundraising total in LGBTQ+ advocacy history, and it sends a clear message: the community and its allies will not be silenced or pushed backward.
With over 59 anti-LGBTQ+ laws passed in the U.S. just this year and legal challenges growing, the money will help fund Lambda Legal’s lawsuits, public education, and training efforts nationwide. $80 million will go to immediate needs; the rest will fuel long-term advocacy.
Lambda Legal CEO Kevin Jennings put it best: “We will not go back.”
