More about us…
Radio ARA is an independent, non-commercial radio station that has been operating in Luxembourg as a community radio station since 1992, initially serving alternative communities such as environmental, feminist and LBGQ groups, as well as specific music communities.
ARA is a citizen’s media, it was founded on the principle of free speech and free participation. Everyone has the possibility to participate to the program of Radio ARA as a volunteer as long as the internal rules are respected: no advertising, no sexual offence, no hate speech, no racism. Introducing people to media literacy skills of media production is one of the main goals of the Radio.
Radio ARA plays a key role in media pluralism in Luxembourg. As an alternative media ARA sounds different at every hour, it promotes different stories, different ways of making radio, and different styles of music. ARA sounds a lot like the mix that compose the Luxembourgish society, due to a strong relationship with its territory and with the communities that it represents. The mission of Radio ARA in this sense is to include every small groups of the society that don’t fit any gender, political, ethno-cultural or social categorisation.
Before you go…
It is important to realise, running a radio station costs money: technical equipment, admin staff, rent, etc. Digital advertising has hit us hard over the past year, now the Covid-19 pandemic has taken all advertising from us.
To save Radio ARA, its independence and its integrity as a community radio, we are now turning to YOU. If you appreciate what we do, please consider a donation, of whatever size you like!
