There is some really great music being released in Luxembourg at the minute. Our new favourite band hail from the north of the Grand Duchy. DRIFE are an Indie/Alternative rock’n’roll band who formed in 2018. Influenced by bands like Ride, The Stone Roses, The Verve, Oasis, The Beatles, The Kinks, Bowie, Neil Young and Bruce Springsteen (I wonder why we like them?), the songs are melodious and the sound ranges from electric guitar driven, up-tempo tracks to more quiet, acoustic pieces.
After participating in the “Rock The South” Newcomer Band Contest in Petange in December 2018, DRIFE won a recording session in a small studio in the south of Luxembourg, where they recorded two songs. “All Here” was released on 12th December 2019 on streaming platforms, followed by “Leave It All Behind” in May 2020. After playing a whole series of gigs and small festivals around the Grand-Duchy in 2019, the band had their eyes on a lot more shows in 2020 until the Covid-19 pandemic smashed all their plans.
Not wanting to waste the time the band decided to look at it as an opportunity and last summer the band went in to the studio to record five new songs which are slowly being released and will feature on an as yet untitled EP, set to be released sometime over this summer 2021.
The latest of those songs is the truly excellent Hit The Ground, the perfect tune to play as we head towards summer and towards (hopefully) the end of the pandemic. “The song is about falling deep down in life, something that everyone goes through at some point, but not accepting to be down there and having the strong will to fight one's way back up again and do everything to regain the "throne" where you feel you belong.” explained frontman Jeff Petry, “It's that fierce determination to stand up after violently hitting the ground.”
Drife are: Jeff Petry–Lead vocals, guitar, songwriting Michel Schumann–Bass guitar, songwriting Patrice Petry–Backing vocals, guitar, keyboards, percussion Bruno Venâncio–Lead guitar Lex Schaul–Drums and David Li–Violin
Follow them on facebook here & instagram here for updates and with a bit of luck we’ll be able to catch them live soon, in the meantime we’ll just wait patiently for that EP!
