Paul McCartney ft Beck - Find My Way
Being totally honest, we were a little apprehensive about this one. Sure the new Paul McCartney album has been getting decent reviews but we thought that maybe, just maybe that was because he’s y’know, Paul McCartney but dig a little deeper and the whole thing becomes even more interesting than a former Beatle and music legend releasing new music.
It’s actually an album featuring a whole load of big names reworking and remixing said music legend’s new music. Macca brought out McCartney III at the tail end of 2020, an album he worked on at home, by himself, during lockdown. “I was living lockdown life on my farm with my family, and I would go to my studio every day," he said "I had some stuff I’d worked on over the years, but sometimes time would run out and it would be left half-finished, so I started thinking about what I had. Each day I’d start recording with the instrument I wrote the song on and then gradually layer it all up. It was a lot of fun. It was about making music for yourself rather than making music that has to do a job. So, I just did stuff I fancied doing. I had no idea this would end up as an album.”.
Well it seems that a whole host of musicians and artists have been looking for something to do during lockdown and McCartney III Imagined sees St. Vincent, Phoebe Bridgers, Josh Homme, Damon Albarn, Blood Orange, Khraungbin, 3D RDN of Massive Attack, Ed O’Brien, Anderson Paak and more take on the Liverpudlian’s new tunes.
The latest single featuring Beck is great, the rest of the record needs exploring.
Funky, dancey and dreamlike all at once and keeping McCartney on guitar while Beck takes on vocal duties, it’s quite different to the original and might be the perfect song to listen to while sitting in the sun, outdoors while having a beer with your friends which is good timing because, well, y’know.
