Every Monday the Breakfast Show Team bring you a selection of their favourite new music to have been released in the previous week and ask the listeners to decide on which track will be our track of the week.
This week Ara City picked up on new music from Morgan Wade, Halsey, The Smile, Abiodun Oyewole, The Weeknd, Alt-J, Michelle, Sasami, Yola and Dope Lemon with the Weeknd coming out on top spot.
The tracks in contention:
Morgan Wade - Run
Halsey - People Disappear Here
The Smile - You Will Never Work in Television Again
Alt-J - Hard Drive Gold
Yola - Dancing Away In Tears
Sasami - Say it
Michelle - Expiration Date
Abiodun Oyewole - My Life
Abiodun Oyewole is one of the founding members of the The Last Poets, a group of Harlem-based wordsmiths that would perform their poems live over jazz accompaniments in New York of the 1960s. The are widely heralded as the forefathers of Hip Hop and have influenced generations of musicians and poets alike. Last Friday saw the release of Abiodun' Oyewole’s new album ‘Gratitude‘, his first solo release since 1995. My Life is our pick from the Album.
Dope Lemon - Howl With Me
Dope Lemon is the solo recording moniker of Angus Stone who will be known to listeners as one half of indie pop duo Angus and Julia Stone. His new album ‘Rose Pink Cadillac‘ dropped on Friday and it’s a brilliant ride through laidback and low-slung hippie grooves. ‘Howl with Me’ cam close to nicking the title of track of the week but was narrowly outvoted.
Track of The Week: The Weeknd - Out Of Time
The Weeknd seemed to be everywhere in 2021, dropping some of the year’s biggest global chart hits . It looks like he intends to maintain that chart dominance into 2022 and what better way to make that statement than by surprise-releasing his new album ‘Dawn FM‘ in the first week of the year. ‘Out Of Time’ took the top spot this week after our listeners voted for it as our track of the week and will be getting played every day this week on the Breakfast Show.
