For Today's 'Top Of the Week' Cordula from Delano came in to discuss the debate which Xavier Bettel has scheduled to take place in the Luxembourgish parliament on Wednesday the 19th January regarding the topic of introducing a vaccination mandate for people living and working in Luxembourg.
Ahead of the debate, Bettel enlisted a council of experts to advise him on whether mandates should be enforced or not. Their response was that in order to protect the Luxembourgish health services from being overwhelmed and to protect those most vulnerable of getting seriously ill from Covid19, people over 50 should be mandated to or get fully vaccinated.
Up for discussion during the debate on Wednesday is who will be covered by the mandate, whether cross border workers can be included in this grouping, whether a booster shot will be required in order to be considered fully vaccinated and how exactly to legally enforce such a ruling if vaccination is indeed to be mandated.
It is, as yet, still unclear when a decision will be made on any potential mandate.
