Delano's Teodor Georgiev was in this morning for Delano's Top Of The Week.
Today up for discussion was the new set of measures regarding the relaxation of Covid restrictions that were announced by Prime Minister Xavier Bettel last Friday.
The relaxations have been introduced under the slogan ''As much security as needed. As much freedom as possible'' and the changes that are set to be introduce include:
· Lifting the 11pm curfew in the hospitality sector.
· The 2G+ CovidCheck regime is going back to 3G. However, antigen or PCR tests must be certified.
· Increasing the number of people that can attend events and gatherings to 2,000. This had been restricted to 200 in December, effectively closing the doors on clubs and other venues.
· Abolishing restrictions at home. Under current rules, households must apply CovidCheck when more than 10 people meet.
· CovidCheck in the workplace will be optional. However, companies choosing not to impose it must ensure distancing and the wearing of masks.
· Quarantine for people who have been in direct contact with an infected patient is being abolished for people who are unvaccinated. The latter must test daily and, for example, wear a mask in the workplace.
· There will be no minimum isolation period. As soon as patients test negative two days in a row by rapid antigen test, they can leave isolation.
These new measures must first be voted through Parliament before they can come into force.
When compared with the situation that Luxembourg was in this time last year, when the Delta variant was causing concern, most people were unvaccinated and Covid restrictions were extended up till mid March, with much lower hospitalisations despite current record-high infection numbers, the dataa would suggest that vaccination has played a huge role in lowering hospitalisations and thus facilitating these relaxed measures.
Teodor's pick of events happening this week in Luxembourg include:
