On the 27th of March, as part of the exhibition celebrating 25 years of the MUDAM collection, William Engelen will perform Verstrijken, a collaborative work made in cooperation with André Pons-Valdès from the Luxembourgish instrumental ensemble United Instruments of Lucilin. He joined Tom on the Breakfast show this morning to talk about the methods behind the Verstrijken project.
The name Verstrijken refers to a method for composing music that Engelen has used since 2005. The sound work is based on journals that the artist transcribed as a score for a solo instrument. It is conceived as a form of self-portraiture, where the musicians perform an episode from their personal history as music.
The performance will take place at 15:00 on Sunday 27th at MUDAM. More information and tickets can be found at www.mudam.com/exhibitions/verstrijken
