This week Cordula Schnuer from Delano joined Tom on the Breakfast Show to talk about the Tripartite discussions that are being held in Luxembourg this week in response to the energy crisis that has been sparked by the invasion of Ukraine.
The tripartite is a meeting of the Luxembourgish government, trade unions and employers that meet in times of economic crisis in order to find solutions for the greater good for Luxembourgish households and businesses. The System was founded in the 1970s in response to the steel crisis in Luxembourg and the tripartite has since convened in response to financial crises, and most recently in response to the pandemic.
The tripartite has this time proposed new measures to ease the increased costs that will be seen by households and businesses including no second indexation of salaries in 2022, a tax credit to counterbalance the loss in purchasing power that households will see, a rent freeze until the end of the year, and aid for companies affected by higher energy prices. The individual parties will now independently discuss the proposals internally before reconvening the tripartite on Thursday to negotiate the final action plan.
