Every Monday Delano Join us in the Ara City Radio studios for Top Of The Week. Tom has a chat with them about a topic that is in the headlines this week, we have a look at some events that they have earmarked that are taking place during the coming week in Luxembourg and there is always a personal pick at the end by whoever is in on the show that day.
Today Teodor Georgiev joined us to talk about the Women's march which is taking place on Tuesday 8th March as part of International Women's Day.
Organisers of the March had to protest to the government of Luxembourg after the proposed route of the march was forbidden by the goverment due to the trouble that had been caused on the same route in previous protests by ant-vaccination protesters back in December. After a reversal of their decision the march will now follow it's traditional route from the Gare to the Place D'Armes in Luxembourg City.
Attendees of the March will be protesting various issues such as the gendered wage-gap in the work place -with women often caught in lower- for working hours to be reduced in favour of a more equal distribution of unpaid care work, three months’ birth leave for both parents, and access to affordable housing. They will also be calling for more of a Governmental response to fighting violence against women. Luxembourg’s justice system currently doesn’t include femicide--the gender-based killing of women--as a separate criminal offence from homicide.
The women's march takes place tomorrow starting at 5pm at Place De La Gare.
