Over 3000 women and supporters joined the Fraestreik 2022 that took place from the train station to the Place d’armes.
On International Women’s Day the position of the organisers of Luxembourg’s JIF (Journée Internationale des Femmes) women’s march was clear, any person identifying as female* should join them, because after three years of pandemic the sanitary Covid-19 crisis has shown that women* are at higher risk of being exploited and likely to experience increasing violence, despite having an essential and irreplaceable role to play in both the private and public space. Without women* society comes to a standstill.
The demands of the march organisers were simple:
A FARE WAGE COMPENSATION!
More Women* are employed in low-income and precarious occupations and endure tiring working conditions.
A GENERAL REDUCTION IN WORKING HOURS FOR EVERYONE!
Women* lack time for themselves and time to fully participate in the economic, social,
participate in cultural and political life. A fair division of gainful employment and
paid work between men and women* is essential.
BIRTH LEAVE OF 3 MONTHS FOR EVERYONE!
Women* are not solely responsible for the care of their child for 3 months after the birth.
THE RIGHT TO AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR EVERYONE!
Women* are part of the group that is most affected by the housing crisis. Especially single women bringing up children*, women of colour, LGBTIQ+ – persons and women* who experience domestic violence and suffer from these precarious housing conditions.
FIGHT AGAINST GENDER VIOLENCE!
Women* are beaten, molested, raped and abused by men with no legal repercussions.
