Greenhouse Stories ("Histoires de Serres") is an exhibition that is currently on display in a reclaimed Greenhouse in Sanem. Today on the Breakfast Show Tom was joined by curators of the exhibition, Olivier Lacrouts and Laura Drouet, and Sebastien Biniek and Lucille Bataille, the artists currently exhibiting in the space, to talk about the exhibition and how the project came together.
Histoires de Serres was conceived when Olivier and Laura, having been asked to curate an exhibition in the commune for part of the esch2022 cultural programming, were given a walking tour of Sanem. coming across an abandoned Greenhouse they decided that this was the perfect location to house the exhibition. 2 years later, with the space emptied and refurbished, visitors can currently visit the location and find a different exhibition each week over the month of July.
Sebastien and Lucille are graphic designers that are based in Valenciennes in Northern France. Their exhibition is the third in a series of four exhibitions that will be taking place in the greenhouse. The theme of their exhibition is the Greenhouse as a space for women's emancipation. In their research for the exhibition Sebastien and Lucille put out an open call on instagram for women from all over the world that had greenhouses to send them material in the form of a few sentences, a poem, a drawing, a word or a story on specially designed postcards that they had made and sent out to each of them. In total they received 40 responses from women as far away as Turkey, the United States and China. From this material they filtered the responses into text which they then embroidered onto handmade banners which can now be found throughout the exhibition space.
the exhibition is running until Sunday 10th of July. visitors can see it between 5-9pm Wednesday to Friday and 10am-9pm Saturday and Sunday.
