Geoff Thompson of Luxembourg's British and Irish Film Festival joined Tom on the Breakfast Show this morning to talk about the upcoming Festival which is celebrating it's 13th Edition this year.
Between the 16th and the 24th of September, the British and Irish Film Festival will take place with screenings, seminars, concerts and Q+As taking place between the Cine Utopia in Limpertsberg and the Cinemateque in Luxembourg city. After two previous editions held at limited capacity due to the pandemic, the fetival will return this year for it's first edition back without any restrictions.
The program of this year's festival offers a selection of 15 screenings of films from across the genre spectrum. Highlights include a screening of 'Boiling Point', a film directed by Philip Barantini about the intensity of working in a kitchen that was filmed in one shot and 'Nothing Compares', a film directed by Kathy Ferguson which chart's the rise to fame of Irish singer Sinead O'Connor.
Aside from the program of film screenings, the BIFF will also host a number of informative seminars on topics such as the business of film production and a focus on Alfred Hitchcock, the Actor and Performer. The festival will also be screening two short films in solidarity with refugees, 'From Iraq to Ukraine' a film by Luxembourgish/Iraqi film maker and refugee Ali Sahib and 'Taste of Home', a film about refugees from Afghanistan, Palestine, Guinea/Senegal and Yemen who settle in Ireland and showcase their home cuisines, both of which will be followed by Q+A's.
The Festival will also feature a Critics prize and Audience prize for best film, with participating Audience members being entered into a draw to win prizes courtesy of Bernard Massard and Home From Home.
