Luxembourg Under Destruction is an organisation that campaigns for better protection of Luxembourg's architectural heritage. Their petition has currently received just over 50% of the required signatures for it to be considered in parliament with just under 2200 more signatures required before the deadline is reached in 16 days.
The petition calls for the government to install a moratorium on the destruction of histroic buildings and introduce better regulation on the protection of Luxembourg's buildings and monuments. Sandra Latanik from the organisation joined Tom on The Breakfast Show this morning to talk about it.
According to Sandra there has been very little regard paid to conserving the beauty of Luxembourg's architectural identity through the protection of old buildings. Instead, many are torn down and replaced with modern appartement blocks that do not integrate into the traditional landscape and take away from the beauty of Luxembourgish towns and villages.
