Head to Nosbaum Reding Gallery this weekend

Looking for something to do this weekend; how about a trip to Nosbaum Reding?

For his fourth solo exhibition at the gallery, Peter Zimmermann brings a series of bold epoxy resin paintings on canvas in which he continues his ongoing pictorial research into the relationships between original and reproduction, and the possibilities of painting in the digital era. Zimmermann works from photographic models, found on the Internet or sourced from his private archive, which he edits on his computer until their original motifs are no longer recognisable.

The series is based on excerpts from the artist’s former works, which he has rearranged into new, intricate compositions. The ‘paint’ – in effect, pigmented epoxy resin – was applied horizontally, colour by colour, layer after layer. The overlapping of hues creates a tantalising play with transparency and depth of field, while highlighting the materiality of the medium. The resulting organic shapes seem to shine from within, their subtle shades changing with the influx of natural light in the exhibition space.
