Jose Gonzalez - Visions
This week’s release radar starts with one of the favourites of the show, Joze Gonzalez and his newly released track Visions, taken from his forthcoming album Local Valley due to be released in September. This will be the first album from González in more than six years, which in a press release, he calls “a natural continuation of the styles I’ve been adding through the years, both solo and with Junip.”
Sharon Van Etten, Fiona Apple- Love More
The second track is Love More by Sharon Van Etten covered by Fiona Apple for Van Etten’s anniversary edition of her 2010 album Epic. Van Etten’s Epic will be covered by multiple artists for it’s anniversary release, including Courtney Barnett, Vagabon, Big Red Machine, Lucinda Williams and Fiona Apple.
Lucy Dacus - Hot and Heavy
Lucy Dacus’s Hot and Heavy is taken from her forthcoming album Home Video to be out 25.6.21 via Matador. When talking about the track, Dacus says:
“ I thought was writing “Hot & Heavy” about an old friend, but I realized along the way that it was just about me outgrowing past versions of myself. So much of life is submitting to change and saying goodbye even if you don’t want to. Now whenever I go to places that used to be significant to me, it feels like trespassing the past. I know that the teen version of me wouldn’t approve of me now, and that’s embarrassing and a little bit heartbreaking, even if I know intellectually that I like my life and who I am.”
Damien Rice, JFDR, Sandrayati Fay - Song for Berta ( live from Cabin )
In honour of Berta Cáceres's 50th birthday, Jófríður Ákadóttir (JFDR), Sandrayati Fay and Damien Rice wrote a song inspired by Berta's life and work.
Berta was an Indigenous Lenca land defender, from Honduras, who was murdered 5 years ago. The injustice of her death feels like it became an emblem of strength for community to gather with unwavering defence in support of what she believed in, with a call for humankind to wake up to the importance of the protection of the environment.
All proceeds go to Copinh, the organisation founded by Berta in 1993.

Keir, Fenne Lily - leave a light on
For the final track of today’s show Release Radar listen to Fenne Lily and Keir join together to create a heart-wrenching ballad Leave A Light On.
Speaking about ‘Leave A Light On’, which he wrote following the loss of his Grandmother and the end of a longterm relationship, Keir explains: “I remember being on FaceTime constantly with Fenne, mostly consisting of her watching me cry. After a little bit of healthy wallowing, I started writing again. In a way, I suppose, the song is about that time. It’s about everything I was feeling.”
