Every Monday the Breakfast Show Team bring you a selection of their favourite new music to have been released in the previous week and ask the listeners to decide on which track will be our track of the week.
This week we our picks included new music by The Lazy Eyes, Sunflower Thieves, Gabriella Cohen, Band of Horses and Fred Again as well as the first new offerings in a while from Melody’s Echo Chamber, Jack White and Pete Doherty with his collaboration with Frederic Lo. Our listeners voted for Jack White’s new track ‘Love is Selfish‘ to be played every day on the breakfast show.
Tracks in contention:
- The Lazy Eyes - Hippo
- Sunflower Thieves - I Don’t Know Why
- Gabriella Cohen - Just For Summer
- Band of Horses - Lights
- Fred Again ft. Romi & HAAi - Lights Out
Melody’s Echo Chamber - Looking Backward
This week, the French psychedelic pop songstress announced announced that her new album ‘Emotional Eternal‘ will be coming out on the 29th of April. Our first taste of the new record is this brilliant track ‘Looking Backward‘ that she describes herself as “a vivid, nonchalant, poetic walk to the Unknown”
Pete Doherty & Frederic Lo - You Can’t Keep It From Me Forever
The Libertines and Babyshambles front man has collaborated with French Musician and Composer Frederic Lo on an album ‘The Fantasy Life of Love and Crime‘ that will be coming out in March. Our first taste of the album, ‘You Can’t Keep It From Me Forever‘ is an upbeat, and heartfelt track, laden with 60s inspired guitar riffs and honest lyrics penned by Doherty about living a drug-free lifestyle. This one was popular with the listeners and nearly got voted into the top spot. We will make sure to play it often enough on the show.
Track of The Week: Jack White - Love is Selfish
In typical Jack White fashion, the White Stripes, Dead Weather and Raconteurs member announced that he will be dropping not one but two albums this year. ‘Fear of The Dawn’ arrives on the 8th of April with ‘Entering Heaven Alive‘ dropping on the 22nd of July. This new single ‘Love is Selfish‘ is a beautifully simple guitar song that is reminiscent of some of his early songs with The White Stripes. The listeners voted it in as our track of the week and it will be played on the show every day this week.
